Gemini: Something Went Wrong
I'm getting more and more frustrated every day with Gemini. Luckily, the trick of starting fresh in a new chat window still works. I guess maybe I need to think about vibe coding with Gemini more modularly. Maybe use one chat window to describe what I want and work through that to build a prompt for another window in which I will deal with the actual code?
Things started off pretty promisingly today. Everything was going pretty smoothly. I talked through what I wanted to accomplish, what my expectations were, and what had already been put in place. Through a short series of prompts I narrowed down the scope of what needed to be done and made sure I understood what was happening. I made a few adjustments to what I wanted Gemini to do, and finally had it output what I wanted.
And it worked, gave me an updated version of a script I fed it, no issue. Well, except one seemingly minor error in the code. But after that, it was a fight to get anything back besides "Something went wrong". After a while, I was finally able to get a response, which contained a correction to another script. Which introduced another error, but at least it resolved the previous one. And then I got nothing from that chat except the same error "Something went wrong".
That's when I decided to try another chat. I fed it all the related scripts with the error I needed to address and it told me how to fix it. But it was wrong. I told the AI the problem, and it gave me another fix, but the same error persisted. Don't get me started with it throwing it's own internal markup into the code output!
It finally fixed that error, but introduced another one! I'm a man of patience, but I was getting seriously frustrated. Luckily, the following response actually worked. I now have a inventory manager, ready to deal with basic resources, with forward looking placeholder functionality for more complex item definitions!
Next up is going to be the playerstat manager, another complex beast. I'll be approaching this one differently. I hope it works better because the way things are (not) working now will just get worse. And as the frustrations mount, my motivation will diminish.
